Today, Maria helped her students to make these ama Today, Maria helped her students to make these amazing little cars!
Maria came to Mount of Olives Children's Village when she was 5 years old. Growing up at Mount of Olives has given her a special ability to relate to the young children that are in our care.
Since Covid shut down the local schools last March, Maria has worked diligently as the teacher for our primary students in our new Learning Center. Maria has also been studying for her Nursing degree online at the same time!
Maria has been a huge blessing to these little ones and everyone at Mount of Olives.
This past week some finishing touches were done on This past week some finishing touches were done on the University students dorm house, in the next village North of Uruapan. The upstairs rooms will be home to our young ladies while they continue their education. This Week saw the girls cleaning up the construction and having a mass sleepover in the new space! This will be so good for them all, to be able to get up walk out the door and catch the bus to go to classes. One more step to becoming strong independent young adults.

If you need a break from all the excitement on the If you need a break from all the excitement on the #HeatingUpTheBaja @Bidbeacon Auctions. You will enjoy this mesmerizing buzz of the bees and the story of our newest endeavour at Mount of Olives Children’s Village. Early on as CoVid was just beginning to unfold, God brought swarms of honey bees to the Baja! We would need to keep our employees busy and also find activities to keep the youth busy as there was no more school classes. So with the influx of bees Oscar was able to start building hives in the wood working shop. We came up with a beautiful plan for the hives and also used the metal work shop to make a great stand for the hives. This helped us qualify for a government program that would provide us with queen bees and several kilos of bees to start hives. The young men were eager to learn and we were able to get them outfitted in beekeepers gear. They learned a lot and were able to capture many swarms as they arrived at our beautiful property surrounded by wild flowers. Not all swarms stayed but lots did. We started two Apiary yards on the property. Soon our guys were getting calls to sell beehives in town and also to come and collect swarms from the local area. It seems our guys have a knack for bees! Javier is now affectionately called the Bee Whisperer, because of his skills and calm demeanour. We presently have over 30 hives of bees and the boys are busy working the hives and maintaining the bees. Even our littlest children are excited to help haul a new hive out to the Bee Yards. This year because the hives are young we will only get a little bit of honey but next year the harvest should be plentiful! #honeybees #casahogar #godsprovision #beewhisperer #honey #skills #startyoung #beehives #wildswarms
Here is the back story to the beautiful wood piece Here is the back story to the beautiful wood pieces that are up for Auction in the Heating Up The Baja fundraiser. The first step has been getting the raw materials from pruning trees onsite or harvesting broken limbs from the local area, it is hard work and everyone joins in. After the wood has been dried, Oscar cuts it into usable pieces, boards and rounds. These are then sanded and planed to be ready to receive the creative designs. Oscar’s wife Lupita has shown a creative side and volunteered to show our youths how to do the wood burning patterns. After tracing the designs onto the wood it is meticulously burned into the surface using a special wood burning tool. After the design is done the pieces are sealed and polished to show the beauty of the natural grains and patterns in the wood. These were then wrapped and labeled and sent to the various Auction locations for you to bid on. Let’s keep bidding and show these kids how special their hard work is appreciated. Links to the Auctions can be found on FB and on our website, link in bio.

These kids love to help out with whatever is going on onsite at the Children’s Village. This has taught them many skills and has given them a great work ethic. Here you see the boys clearing land of weeds and digging holes for fruit trees. Yes the holes are huge and the ground is very hard. We will fill these holes with water and good soil to give the fruit trees a great start. We have limes, oranges, lemons, pomegranates, olives, pears, oranges and peaches, oh and one Mango tree!
